The Perceptual Cognitive Skills And Their Interaction As A...

Sports offer a relatively exclusive environment where athletic abilities and achievements are continuously challenged. There are essential skills and attributes necessary for the best athletic performance. Athletes are required to process information in a time-constrained intense atmosphere. Along with that sports require one to adapt and gain new knowledge and exceptional cognitive processes that allow athletes to compete at their highest ability. Throughout this paper I will be discussing two different research articles. The first article I have chosen is titled Perceptual-Cognitive Skills and Their Interaction as a Function of Task Constraints in Soccer. The second article I will be reviewing is titled, The Perceptual Cognitive†¦show more content†¦A panel of qualified soccer coaches independently examined and selected a total of 20 video action stimuli to be presented to the soccer participants. Research predicted that the data suggests that skilled players can anticipat e their opponent’s intentions earlier and more accurately than their lesser-skilled counterparts (Ford, McRobert, Roca, Williams, 2013). However, for less skilled participants, researchers expected no significant differences in the search rate and gaze strategy employed across task conditions due to their lack of domain and task-specific knowledge compared with their more skilled counterparts (Ford, McRobert, Roca, Williams, 2013). It was also hypothesized that during the far task condition, in which the ball was far away from the participant, skilled players would employ more fixations of shorter duration to more informative areas in the scene; for example the 11 vs. 11 situations. While for the near task, where the ball was close to the participant, skilled participants were expected to have fewer fixations of longer duration, predominantly to the player in possession of the ball (Roca et al., 2011; Williams et al., 1994). Evidence shows that skilled players were better at anticipating because they made more effective use of meaningful postural cue information. It will also explain how other texts, particularly non-fiction, lend themselves more easily to translation due to the literalness they contain, enabling the original to be brought over to a new language more or less word-for-word. This essay will argue that, whilst the use of figurative language in literary texts is more resistant to translation, the use of a suitable translator and translation method ensures that most are in fact translatable. When considering literary texts, Translators are faced with further issues due to â€Å"the anxiety over un-translatability [†¦] along with the desire for [†¦] cross-cultural articulation and representation in the target text. This is particularly apparent in literary translation.† Sun (2011: 231). Davis (2004: 310) posits that literary texts demonstrate two types of untranslatability: linguistic and cultural. Every language contains its own rhymes due to language patterns and has variations of sound patterns and semantics, meaning that literal translations lose the intended effect and rhythm. Panegyrics are often used in Arabic and Persian poetry but are rare in English poetry. Hyperbole seems unnatural in some languages, including English, and metaphors or similes don’t always make sense to speakers of a language other than the author’s (ibid.: 310-314). Arabic and Persian poetry strongly emphasise wonder and amazement. There aren’t single terms in English to express, for example, a notion of beauty, unlike the word Shahr-ashub in Arabic (ibid.: 315).
